HISTORY OF CENOJAS MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

1959 – AC Jeeps, Yellow Taxis, Flooded streets rain water to drink, and an old homely gym – Davao City, the birthplace of D.K.C.

It is a sad memory to portray, but without it, the DKC will loss the color and meaning of its existence. It is a struggle, a real struggle – from “ rags to riches “ as they often say. For twenty six long weary years the DKC climb the stairs of time to get a name. It was born in the old Ponciano Reyes Street. With only one student to start – it was surel a sacrifice. No barbells, bags, balls, makiwaras and the needed instrument for the job. One moon later, eight students enrolled, and more followed through the succeeding months. It stayed there for six years until it found its place in the bigger station in Rizal Extension.

More trials come and go, and more victories won.
The club gained much prestige when I got the banner of getting third in the world tournament. In the midst of storm and rain, the DKC survive – and now it has risen to the biggest and the best club in the community.

It has produced hundreds of men and women who are now in their different places around the world. They all hope that for eternity –their mother – stands still.

DKC is not only a maker of a Filipino Blackbelts. But scores of men from different nationalities left its portals with plaques and belts and bear its name around the world.

Up to the present the club still exists, it serves for 49 strong years and continue serving and implementing its guiding principle. Name changes into CMMA or Cenojas Mixed Martial Arts.

The Champs Belt

This is the champ belt where everyone is aiming to have. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used, including striking and grappling.
Modern mixed
martial arts tournaments as a popular phenomenon emerged in 1993 with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, based on the concept of pitting different fighting styles against each other in competition with minimal rules in place, in an attempt to determine which system would be more effective in a real, unregulated combat situation. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, mixed martial arts events implemented additional rules for the safety of the athletes and to promote acceptance of the sport, while maintaining as much of the original no-holds-barred concept as possible. Since these changes, the sport has grown rapidly, to the point of setting pay-per-view records.
The fighting concept of
combining various combat disciplines was seen in Bartitsu in late 19th century and gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the emergence of Bruce Lee and his theories of mixing various martial art styles.
The history of the modern MMA event can be traced to mixed style contests throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s; the
Gracie family's vale tudo martial arts tournaments in Brazil starting in the 1920s; and early mixed martial arts matches hosted by Antonio Inoki in Japan in the 1970s. The sport gained international exposure and widespread publicity in the United States in 1993, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie dominated the Ultimate Fighting Championship, sparking a revolution in the martial arts, while in Japan the continued interest in the sport resulted in the creation of the PRIDE Fighting Championships in 1997.

Enkwentro 2

THE Engkwentro II Mixed Martial Arts competition organized by the Mindanao Mixed Martial Arts Association was set last December 8 at the Almendras Gym at 4 p.m. which showcased once again some of the best mixed martial arts fighters here in the local scene. According to Mars and Marco Cenojas of the Cenojas Mixed Martial Arts Association (CMMA), this event will be the first mixed martial arts competition that will be using the Octagon which is the fighting arena being used by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in the U.S. “We will be using an octagon shaped fighting arena with a measurement of 10 feet per side and a height of 5 feet. The Octagon will be covered by cyclone wire on the sides. Compared to the usual boxing ring, this would be more challenging a new to the fighters,” Mars and Marco Cenojas said. So far 5 teams have already committed to field fighters for this action packed event namely the Mandirigma mixed martial arts club, the Cenojas Mixed Martial Arts Association, the Aikicomjukado, the MATS Judo Club and Jujitsu de Davao.

Combat Sports

These are some of the materials used by the players when they are into tournaments or in an ordinary practice. Such materials seen are the gloves, head gear and thai pads. Boxing gloves are gloves that fighters wear or use on their hands to cushion the impact during boxing matches. They are also used for protection from injury such as fractures and/or contusions when punched. Headgear used to protect boxers from soft tissue damage, (bruises, cuts, etc), during sparring - also used in competition in amateur boxing. Head gear offers no protection from the effects of hard punches (stunning, knockdowns, KOs). It is important that boxers are aware of this otherwise headgear can produce a false sense of security leading a boxer to take punches rather than defend himself or herself. Thai pads used by every players during practice to protect themselves from being hit directly.
